Professional Experience:
Kevin has over 25 years of Supply and Inventory control management experience from a wide range of industries. He currently is the Purchasing Manager for the Chas E. Phipps Co., a distributor of construction specialty products in Cleveland, Ohio. Specifically, he is responsible for the replenishment of all inventory materials for 3 branches and is a point person for supplier contact. While in this position he developed the “Excellence in Partnering” Program, which is an integral part of their Supplier Management and Review process.
Prior to joining Phipps, Kevin was the Purchasing Manager for Marous Brothers Construction, a large general contractor located in Willoughby OH. His primary responsibilities were the procurement of building materials, supplies and services for all construction projects. Prior to Kevin joining Marous, the procurement responsibility rested with project managers, superintendents and foreman. He centralized the purchasing function and his areas of responsibility increased to negotiating the purchase agreements for all dimensional lumber, drywall and metal studs. He also was responsible for all MRO supplies and telecom equipment.
Kevin actually began his purchasing career with a privately held wholesaler of flower and vegetable seed in Smethport, PA. While at G.S. Grimes, he held several positions including Sales Manager, Inventory Control Manager and Operations Manager where he was responsible for the brokered products division, both on the procurement and sales sides, of live plant material and greenhouse supplies. While there, he developed and implemented a nomenclature catalog system to work in coordination with the computer software which is still in use today. When the company relocated, he joined the A.D. Bedell Company, a candy and tobacco distributor in Salamanca, NY as a buyer.
While working at the A.D. Bedell Company, Kevin developed a cross functional team to coordinate the sales efforts between purchasing, the sales force and the manufacturer. He left Bedell’s in 1996 to become the General Manager of a retail garden center located in Perry, OH.
Professional Credentials:
Kevin is proud to be one of the first 100 people within ISM to achieve the credential of Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM). He holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Kevin was elected to the PMAC Board of Directors in 2005 and has held many committee chair positions as well as Secretary – Treasurer and President.
He lives with his wife Judy in Perry, OH and has one daughter, Ashley. He is an avid Cleveland sports fan, but his heart remains in “Happy Valley”, home of the Penn St. Nittany Lions!
